BATHROOMS

But Why the Bathroom?

Many people don’t see the value of remodeling the bathroom when other, more visual parts of the home could be renovated first. This is a valid point; however, the bathroom is normally the most outdated part of the home because of that exact reason? It’s not a highly-visible part of the home. You’re not forced to look at it every minute of the day like the living room or kitchen, so it’s easy to disregard the bathroom when it comes time to remodel. As a result, the bathroom endures years of neglect and before you know it, every time you step into the bathroom, it’s like stepping through a time warp. This may become a novelty for you and your family, but when it comes time to sell your home, your once "quaint" avocado green bathroom with the outdated wallpaper and linoleum can quickly become an albatross around your home’s neck.

That’s why the bathroom needs to be updated and remodeled in accordance with the overall style of your home. Even if you haven’t renovated your home in many years, remodeling your bathroom can give your home the edge it needs to be the hot property on the block.

When it comes to bathrooms, few things stand out more in the design than the vanity chosen. Often serving, along with the mirror, as the focal point of these rooms, bathroom vanities can be used to create a big design statement.

Whether it’s brand new construction or a remodel a person has in mind, the choice in bathroom vanities can make or break the overall look of the room. Even when it’s a partial remodel, the vanity chosen can often completely alter the appearance of the bathroom without the expense involved of changing out the tub and shower, floors and more.

The options for bathroom vanities are pretty extensive, but there are some basic styles people can look at. They include:

* Country.  Bathroom vanities that lend themselves to this design style include light oak, white and even some colored and "distressed" look creations. When the right countertops and accessories are added to the mix, this look can be outstanding in large and even smaller bathrooms.

* Classic European.  Darker wood tones, such as mahogany, cherry and hickory, are ideal for giving a bathroom the look and feel of old world charm. When antique, or antique-like, accessories and the right counters are brought into play; the overall look can be delightfully upscale.

* Modern.  Bathroom vanities don’t have to always be created out of wood or to look like wood to be outstanding. Modern cabinets can come in a variety of construction styles. Metallic looking or plastic appearance vanities with glass or glass-like doors can give a child’s (or even an adult’s) bathroom a whimsical, modern feel. Add in some major splashes of bright colors, and the end look will be one-of-a-kind.

* Romantic.  Some people simply love to turn their bathrooms into quiet, romantic retreats. When bathroom vanities are chosen to accent the look of accessories picked out for the mix, this style can be spectacular. Ideas here include fancy scrolled vanities of lighter wood colors, large freestanding sinks with separate vanities and even darker colors with the right splash of accessories.

* Spartan.  Some people prefer to keep it down to just the basics. A clean, Spartan look works well for them. A simple vanity with basic counters that serve the purpose and do it well works perfectly for this look.

* French Provincial.  This classic look strikes a balance between feminine elegance and overall upscale design. With its standard white design and gold gilt, this type of cabinet can make a huge change in any bathroom design. Add in luxurious countertops and richly appointed accessories and the room will be fit for a princess.

* Antique.  There are some great reproduction and even original vanity designs that are created as freestanding cabinets with proper insets for a sink, sinks or plumbing.

There are about as many choices for bathroom vanities as there are style preferences. Finding just the right look might take some serious decision making, but what these additions can do for the overall appearance of the room will make the hunt more than worthwhile.
